Couples Therapy: Spa Treatments for Two

01/26/2009 by azspagirl

We’re still in deep denial over the demise of Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt (and Vince Vaughn, and John Mayer and that hot British model guy). You have to wonder if they considered couples therapy. No, not that psychoanalytic mumbo-jumbo. We’re talking about a good rubdown and staring into each other’s eyes over cups of steamy green tea. Our prescription for spicing up a relationship is simple: a made-for-two couple’s spa treatment. Not only do these side-by-side treatments offer a blissful trip down the road to quality time, but they also come with a full day’s access to the spa amenities. So grab your better half and bask in the glow of a relationship rescue at these resort spa destinations.

Phoenix

Couples Massage at Revive Spa at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort. Share your spa experience with side-by-side massage therapies of your choice. Pick a Revive, Therapeutic, Aromatherapy, Reflexology or Hot Stone Massage as your individual treatment (50 minutes, $300 includes gratuity).

Outdoor Couples Massage at The Spa at the Arizona Biltmore Resort. Chill out together with an Aromatherapy Massage performed in a private outdoor massage cabana (50 minutes, $135-$155). Available October through April, weather permitting. Spend the rest of the day lounging by the pool or in the spa’s outdoor hot tub.

Couples Massage at Alvadora Spa at Royal Palms Resort. Kick back in a private, indoor-outdoor spa villa while giving into your choice of a Classic, Aromatherapy, Reflexology or Lymphatic Massage (60 minutes, $260-$280). Top your treatment off lounging in one of the spa’s open-air relaxation areas or by the resort pool. Tip: Plan a romantic weekend getaway and book a spa terrace room, complete with a special in-room spa menu and luxury amenities such as a steam shower, separate soaking bathtub and spa robes.

Couples Massage at the Arizona Grand Spa at the Arizona Grand Resort. Give in to a custom massage in the spa’s couples room. Bonus: Bring the kids! The spa offers salon services for kids 6 and up and spa services for teens. The family-friendly resort is home to the Oasis Water Park and fun dining options for post-massage family bonding.

Scottsdale

The Mineral Ritual at Spa Avania at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort. This romantic time-out includes deeply detoxifying massages in the elegant Avania Couples Suite, complete with a private outdoor deck and hot tub (60 minutes, $405). Afterward, take a dip in the French Celtic mineral pool or linger by the outdoor fireplace with a cup of exotic tea.

Poolside Cabana Massage at VH Spa at Hotel Valley Ho. Go alfresco with full-body massages with your choice of sunscreen lotion or massage oil (60 minutes, $160 each person).

Duo Massage at The Spa at Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North. Melt away stress with a massage for two in the spa’s spacious couples suite (50 minutes, $310). End the day with sunset cocktails at the resort’s Onyx Bar & Lounge, which offers sweeping views of the Valley.

Ritual of Two at Willow Stream at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. This romantic hiatus starts with a half hour of alone time where you and your sidekick are left alone in the couple’s spa suite to experiment with a variety of muds and masques and bath concoctions. The ritual wraps with dual Aromatherapy Massages. The luxury suite features a specialty tub, private shower, bathroom and sitting area (120 minutes, $599). Another option is the Hip to Hip, a dreamy rose-inspired interlude that includes a side-by-side dry brush exfoliations followed by massages with aromatic rosehip oil, full-body wraps and facial massages (60 minutes, $399).

Couples Massage at The Golden Door Spa at The Boulders Resort. Soothe sore muscles and relax in a deluxe couple’s therapy room complete with a hot tub and 30 extra minutes for a post-treatment soak (50 minutes, $335). Afterward, linger by the private spa pool, meander through the outdoor labyrinth or organic garden, take a yoga class or grab a refreshing bite at the spa cafe.

Paradise Valley

Couples Romance Journey at Joya Spa at the InterContinental Montelucia Resort. This delicious shared journey includes a Spiced Chocolate and Pomegranate Body Treatment, Diamond Facial, Couples Massage and Signature Bath Service (4 hours). Services takes place in either the Joya and Grand Palace luxury suites.

Massage 101 at Sanctuary Spa at Sanctuary Camelback Mountain. Learn basic massage techniques to practice home with this creative and interactive couples massage tutorial. The private lesson is performed in their luxurious couple’s room complete with a fireplace (60 minutes, $150). Make the most of your time together with a workout at the fitness center or quality time by the pool.

Tucson

Couples Starr Pass at Hashani Spa at JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort. Can’t agree on the same thing? The Couples Starr Pass Experience allows each person to choose a Therapeutic, Hashani, Hydrating, Aroma Soul or Ahbyanga Massage performed side by side (50 minutes, $250). Afterward, share a healthy bite at the Spa’s Blossom cafe or park yourselves at the pool.

Sedona

Time for Two at Amara Spa at Amara Resort. Lie side by side with your favorite someone in a plush couple’s suite enjoying your choice of a Swedish, Deep Tissue, Aromatherapy or Reflexology Massage (60 minutes, $260). After your treatment, take a stroll along the creek that runs behind the resort’s scenic grounds.

On a final note, remember that pricing may vary seasonally or on busy days of the week. Contact spas individually for details.
