Jewel of Joya DIY Honey Hair Mask

diy honey hair mask

Bring out the superstar shine in your hair with this honey hair mask courtesy of Joya Salon’s secret weapon.

We know a little secret. Joya Spa at the Omni Scottsdale Resort at Montelucia in Paradise Valley, AZ is well-known for its lavish interior, breathtaking vistas and world-class spa services. But did you know that Joya hides a celebrity hair stylist with a well-honed gift for bringing out the best in your tresses?

Backed by more than 25 years in the industry, Ray Issa is Joy Salon’s secret weapon for elevating hair to superstar status. Ray’s celebrity client list has included Marisa Tomei, Mary Louise Parker, Susan Sarandon, Claudia Schiffer and Sarah Jessica Parker. After running a successful Manhattan salon, celebrity stylist Ray Issa has brought his artistic vision to Scottsdale and beyond at Joya Salon inside Joya Spa.

Ray Issa Joya Salon and Spa

His advice for keeping hair shiny and protected against harsh, moisture-sapping elements like sun, wind and pool chlorine? Regular deep conditioning treatments and a hair glaze. Like an energy drink of hair color, a clear glaze gives hair extra shine and a tinted glaze gives a hair an extra color boost.

If you can’t get to the salon, nature’s next best thing, he says, is honey. “Honey is a natural humectant, which means it attracts and locks in moisture,” says Issa.

Bring out the superstar shine in your hair with Ray Issa’s honey hair mask.

Here’s what you need:

  • About a ½ cup of honey (more or less depending on your hair length)
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Plastic shower cap

Here’s what you do:

Mix the honey with the olive oil. Spritz hair with warm water until it is thoroughly dampened. Massage the honey mixture into your hair from roots ends, don your shower cap and let the mask do its work for about 20 minutes. Rinse with cool water. For extremely dry or sun-damaged hair, you can also add a tablespoon of a protein-rich ingredient, like avocado or egg yolk, which helps replenish the keratin protein bonds that UV rays attack. Use the honey hair mask once a month or so to nourish and restore shine.

And if a salon treatment is in your future, give Joya Salon a call at 480. 627.3020 or visit www.joyaspa.com.
